He was Acting Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals from 1992 to 1993
He was in the United States Navy during World World War World War II He was a justice of the New York Supreme Court from 1963 to 1983. In January 1983, he was appointed a judge of the New York Court of Appeals. After the resignation of Sol Wachtler in November 1992, Simons was chosen Acting Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.
He retired from the bench at the end of his 14-year term in January 1997.
Cisplatin ("Platinol") was given instead of carboplatin ("Paraplatin").
