Richard Kendall is an art authority who is known for his considerable expertise in the works of Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Edgar Degas. Kendall has particularly specialized in Degas’s art, about which he has published several volumes. Among Kendall’s earliest books on Degas is Degas by Himself: Drawings, Prints, Paintings, Writings, which incorporates a range of works in portraying the great painter.
In Dealing with Degas: Representations of Women and the Politics of Vision, Kendall collects essays providing feminist perspectives on Degas’s art.
An ensuing volume, Degas Landscapes, examines some of Degas’s less popular paintings and indicates the means by which the artist, despite proclaiming his lack of affinity for the genre, nonetheless proved unique and accomplished within it.
