Richard Tatum began his professional career at the Philadelphia Area Repertory Theatre, where he performed in The Merchant of Venice, Measure for Measure, The Comedy of Errors, The Servant of Two Masters and Tartuffe. He also appeared at the Oberlin Theatre Institute with Patrick Stewart in The Tempest. Tatum toured for four years in Plaza Suite starring Lee Meriwether, with whom he also appeared as Bogie in Play lieutenant Again, Sam in New New York
He appeared in a production of A Doll"s House for that company, earning Best Supporting Male nomination from the Los Angeles Weekly Theatre Awards.
