Kimball, Richard Burleigh was born on October 11, 1816 in Plainfield, New Hampshire, United States. Son of Richard and Mary (Marsh) Kimball.
Graduate Dartmouth, 1834, honorary Doctor of Laws, 1873.
Admitted to Waterford (New York) bar, 1836. Practiced in New York City, 1836-1854. Founder Kimball (Texas), early 1850’s.
Built part of Galveston, Houston & Henderson R.R. (1st railroad in Texas), president, 1854-1860. Best known novel: St. Leger. Or the Threads of Life (appeared in Knickerbocker Magazine to which he often contributed), 1849-1850.
Other works include: Cuba and the Cubans, 1850. Romance of Student Life Abroad, 1857.
