Became contractor for the Southern Overland Mail, controlling many frontier routes, residing at San Diego, California. Removed to St. Louis, 1876. Identified with construction of Cotton Belt System, West Virginia Central & Pittsburgh Railway System, St. Louis & N.Ark.
R.R., San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railway System, Coal and Coke R.R. of West Virginia. Also interested in the A.,T.&St.F. System.
Member Republican National Executive Committee, 1884-1900. Member Republican National Committee, since 1892. Member United States Inter-Continental Railway Commission, 1892-1900.
