Peter, Richard Ector was born on March 7, 1943 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Son of Arthur E. and Josephine (Wrobleski) Peter.


Bachelor of Science with honors, University Atla., 1965. Doctor of Philosophy, University Washington, 1969.


Postdoctoral fellow University Bristol, England, 1969-1970. Assistant professor University Alberta, Edmonton, 1971-1974, associate professor, 1974-1979, professor, from 1979, chairman department zoology, 1983—1992, dean of science, 1992—2002. Vice president Alberta Research Council, 2002—2004.
