And after graduation worked in Leipzig, London, Paris, Heidelberg, and Naples. Two gold medals at graduation, and several scholarships and exhibitions (Sir Robert Peel, John Charters, Andrew Malcolm, and Mackay Wilson exhibitions in science, medicine, and classics). Held a medical and sanitary appointment, 1873-1875.
