Tuthill, Richard Stanley was born on November 10, 1841 in Vergennes, Jackson County, Illinois, United States. Son of Daniel Braley and Sally (Strong) Tuthill.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Middlebury College, Vermont, 1863, A.M., 1868. Doctor of Laws, Illinois College, 1901, St. Ignatius College, Chicago, 1898, Middlebury, Vermont, 1909. Entered army 1863, served as scout attached to command General John A. Logan, later 2d and First lieutenant Battery H, 1st Michigan Light Artillery, 3d Division, 17th Army Corps, Army of Tennessee.

Resigned, May 29, 1865, at close of war.

Edward McKey, January 2, 1877 (died 1909). Married 3d, Susan Payne Trimble, September 1911. Admitted to the bar, 1866.

Practiced at Nashville, Tennessee, 1866-1873. State’s attorney Nashville Circuit, 1867-1871. Located at Chicago, 1873.

City attorney, 1875-1879. United States district attorney, 1884-1886. Judge Circuit Court, Cook County, Illinois, since 1887.
