Career
Before becoming the head coach at Cal State Fullerton on June 24, 2011, Vanderhook was an assistant coach at several schools, including Cal State Fullerton from 1985–1988, Cal State Northridge Matadors from 1989–1990, Cal State Fullerton again from 1991–2007, and University of California, Los Angeles Bruins from 2009–2011. Vanderhook played at Cerritos College prior to transferring to Cal State Fullerton prior to the 1983 season. Vanderhook has a close relationship with Oregon head coach George Horton.
Vanderhook played college baseball under Horton at Cerritos College in the early 1980s, served as a Cal State Fullerton assistant with Horton under head coach Augie Garrido from 1991–1996, and assisted Horton at Cal State Fullerton from 1997–2007.
He completed his bachelor"s degree in physical education at Trinity University in 2003.
