Background
Rihe Kita was born in 1650. Originally named Shigetoshi Morishima, a resident of Takamatsu (Kagawa Prefecture). He was the son of Shigeyoshi of Osaka who became a ceramist at Shigaraki (Shiga Prefecture).

Rihe was a follower of Ninsei Nomura, and was invited to Takamatsu to set up a kiln (1674) where he prospered. Later he was ordered by the clan Lord to take the name by which he is now known (1649).
