Rikizo Taya was born on January 13, 1899 Tokyo, Japan.
After completing a musical course of the Mitsukoshi Department Store, he made his debut on the stage of the Royal Theatre, Akasaka, as an opera singer under the baton of Rossi (1917). He was a popular star during the early days of Japanese opera. He retired for awhile, but returned to the stage in the opera Bun Taisho (General Bun) (1949). His songs are still popular.
