She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in political science, and spent a few years at WWL-television in New Orleans as a copy girl before joining Columbia Broadcasting System in 1972 as a producer.

Rita Braver is a correspondent for Columbia Broadcasting System News. lawyer Robert B. Barnett, born August 1946. They have a daughter, Meredith Jane Barnett, age 31. From 1983 to 1993, Braver served as Columbia Broadcasting System News"s chief law correspondent.
She broke the story of the John Walker spy ring, as well as that of another spy, Jonathan Pollard.
She also led Columbia Broadcasting System"s coverage of the Iran-Contra affair. She served as Columbia Broadcasting System"s chief White House correspondent during Bill Clinton"s first term, and since 1998 has been chief national correspondent for Sunday Morning.
