Club
Alflen played for Football Club Utrecht, Ajax Amsterdam, Vitesse Arnhem, Sparta Rotterdam and Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Eredivisie. Since February 2009 he had been head-coach of Young Football Club Utrecht. When Erwin Koeman quit as head coach of Football Club Utrecht in October 2011, Alflen was assigned as assistant coach of January Wouters for the first team of Football Club Utrecht.
He became head coach after Wouters left the club in June 2014.
On 25 March 2015 Football Club Utrecht said that coach Alflen and his advisor Company Adriaanse with step down from their roles with the Dutch club at the end of the season.
