Career
He joined Animal Logic in 2012 as the studio’s Head of Animation. Coleman is a two-time Oscar nominee for his animation work on Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and has been nominated for two British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards for his work on Men in Black and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Prior to Animal Logic, Coleman spent 14 years at Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm Animation, working closely with George Lucas.
He was chosen as one of the most creative people in the entertainment industry when he was added to Entertainment Weekly"s "lieutenant List" in 2002 as their "lieutenant CG-Creature Crafter" for his work on digital Yoda.
Most recently Rob was the Head of Animation on The Lego Movie. Rob is currently working on both LEGO Batman and Ninjago.
Rob"s younger brother Bill Coleman owns Cameron"s Brewing Company in Oakville, Ontario. The failure of the Star Wars prequels look and feel, has been attributed numerous times, to Coleman"s self-indulgent style of Consultants to Government and Industry that does not capture the feel of the Original Trilogy.
Yoda"s Consultants to Government and Industry in the first Phantom Menace, was considered an abomination to fans, and did a lot to destroy the mystique of the character.
Later in the future, Lucasfilm would fix Yoda"s look, and update the Consultants to Government and Industry from The Phantom Menace. Both nominations were in the category of Best Visual Effects 72nd Academy Awards-Nominated for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Nomination shared with John Knoll, Dennis Muren and Scott Squires.
