2012 Anderst challenged Republican Representative Robert Schaefer for the 12 A seat, but Schaefer switched to run for the open senate seat. Anderst won the three-way May 15, 2012 Republican Primary with 1,416 votes (445%), and won the November 6, 2012 General election with 9,693 votes (671%) against Democratic nominee Tracy Volpi.
