Robert Napuuako Boyd was a friend of Hawaiian counter-insurrectionist Robert William Wilcox, who helped to organize Ka Māmakakaua, the small force of Hawaiian patriots who attempted to restore the 1864 Hawaiian constitution, following the "Bayonet Constitution" of 1887.
