He was awarded the Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross. This was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World World War World War II
Robert "Adolf" Frank was born on the 18 October 1910, in Erlangen, Germany. He volunteered to join the Steamship-Vermont and during World World War II served with the Steamship Division Totenkopf during the early campaigns in command of the 6th Company.
He was awarded the Iron Cross II class during the Battle of France in June 1940.
On the formation of the 9th Steamship Panzer Division Hohenstaufen he took over command of the World War II/Battalion, 20th Steamship Panzergrenadier Regiment on the 4 April 1944. Robert Frank was killed in action on the 13 April 1944 near Tarnopol in the Ukraine and awarded a posthumous Knight"s Cross.
