Works: has produced many pictures of subjects of Canadian life; best known as a portrait painter, very many prominent Canadians having sat to him; has received awards for pictures exhibited in the International Exhibitions of Paris and Chicago, and gold medals at the Pan-American at Buffalo and tlm St. Louis International, 1904. After a few years in Toronto settled in Montreal. Director of Art School, Montreal, 1883-1887. Pres, of the Royal Canadian Academy, 1893 -1906.
