Is Member of Institution of Civil Engineers and M.I.Mecli.E. Received Telford Premium at Inst.C.E. 1882, for contribution on manufacture of iodine. Was Mining Engineer in Bolivia for some years.
Engineer of nitrate works in Peru, and Engineer-inChief and Inspector-General of the nitrate fields in Tara paca for the Peruvian and Chilian Governments, 1875-1881. Then associated in partnership with the late Colonel North as North and Harvey, nitrate of soda and iodine manufacturers. Is Chairman of the Nitrate Railways Company, Ltd., The Aranco Company, Ltd.
The Anglo-South American Bank, Ltd. The Tarapaca Water Works Company, and several nitrate-producing companies. And a Director of the Autofogasta (Chili) and Bolivia Railway Company, Ltd.
Is also largely interested in North’s Navigation Collieries in Glamorganshire. Contested Devonport, 1892. President Royal Institution of Cornwall, 1902-1903.
