He was born in Eltham, Kent on 16 September 1887 and died in Edinburgh on 1 June 1942. He appeared in 172 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled right arm medium pace. He scored 8,373 runs with a highest score of 198, one of twenty centuries, and took 34 wickets with a best performance of three for 73.
