Educated at Berkhamsted School and Street Edmund Hall, Oxford, he was successively Curate at Street Peter"s Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton, Vicar of Street Stephen’s, Cheltenham, Rector of Street Peter"s and Rural Dean of Wolverhampton and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) Archdeacon of Stafford. He retired in 1959 but died only a year later.
