Acted frequently as interim - superintendent at Ben Nevis Observatory, 1889-1892. Spent the winter of 1901- 1902 at the head of Glen Nevis studying the meteorology of the glen. Meteorologist and Magnetist, Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, 1902 -1904.
Remained in charge ol the meteorological and magnetical station on the South Orkney Islands until January 1905. Accompanied Argentine gunboat, Uruguay, in her voyage to Gerlache Strait, Graham’s Land, in search of Doctor Charcot’s Antarctic Expedition, 1905. Visited Spitzbergen and Arctic Regions as a physicist on board a whaler, 1906.
Voyage on a Whaler to the Greenland Sea, 1907. Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1891. Medallist Royal Scottish Geographical Society, 1905.
Is now engaged in the discussion of the scientific results of various Argentine Antarctic Expeditions. Superintendent of Publications, Argentine Meteorological Office, since 1907.
