Vice President. lieutenant was the second time in history that a person of Native American ancestry had vied for a Vice Presidential office. He was the second after Herbert Hoover’s Vice President, Charles Curtis, to have a Native American ancestry.
Doctor Robert Ornelas is the great-great-great-grandson of Chief Cristobal Osuna from a tribe in the San Diego Mountains circa the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo (1848).
