Background
PATCH, Robert was born on July 25, 1842. 3rd son of late Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Revel Patch, Honourable East India Company’s Service, and Charlotte, daughter of Captain Robert Davies, killed (1799) in the action between the British frigate “ Sibylle ” and French frigate “ La Forte ”.

Career
Joined 55th Foot (now 2nd Battalion Border Regiment), 1863. Captain Bengal Staff Corps (now Indian Army), 1875. Major, 1883; Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel, 1888.
Colonel, 1891; served with Bhootan Expedition, 1865 (medal with clasp). During Afghan war, 1879-1880(despatches, medal). Hazara Expedition, 1888 (despatches, Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel).
