Career
Born in London, Patten migrated to Australia as a youth, and from 1883 was a teacher in rural New South Wales. In 1896 he became a farmer with a property near Wellington, and was President of the Farmers and Settlers Association from 1908-1913. He held the seat until he retired in 1917.
He returned to England and died in 1940.
