Robert Rosenberg was born on November 24, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. He is a son of Norman W. Rosenberg, a scientist and professor, and Shirley Rosenberg (maiden name Landy), a teacher.
Robert Rosenberg received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tel Aviv University in 1976. The same year, he obtained a Master of Education degree from Harvard University.
Robert Rosenberg began his writing career in journalism in 1976 in an international news agency United Press International where he served in its Chicago and Tel Aviv divisions for two years. Among his beats have been the peace process between Israel and the Arabs, the changing face of Jerusalem under Teddy Kollek, and Israeli counter-terrorism. During the eight following years, he reported for the Jerusalem Post newspaper. Simultaneously, he also worked as an associate editor, columnist, and writer in other periodicals. From 1981 to 1982, Rosenberg occupied the post of a reporter in Time magazine. Later, beginning in 1985, he was a special correspondent from Israel in U.S. News & World Report for four years.
From 1991 to 1995, Rosenberg completed his military service in civil defense reserves of Israel Defense Forces.
A year after Robert Rosenberg left the post in U.S. News & World Report, he helped to found LINK magazine, Israel’s premier English-language business magazine, devoted to business and technology in Israel, serving as its managing editor till 1995. The same year, the journalist began researching and developing Internet publishing projects, and in September, he opened Ariga, a World Wide Web magazine on the Internet. It published news, opinion, arts, and a comprehensive list of web sites relating to the Middle East peace process.
The first novel by Rosenberg published in 1991, ‘Crimes of the City’, was the re-imagining of a brutal slaying that took place in Jerusalem in 1983, and introduced to the readers a fictional detective Avram Cohen who reappeared in the author’s second book, ‘The Cutting Room’, a couple of years later.
Rosenberg collaborated with Moshe Betzer on his autobiography ‘Secret Soldier’ issued in 1996 in four countries, for the twentieth anniversary of the Entebbe rescue, perhaps the most famous counter-terrorist operation in history.
Robert Rosenberg also contributed to magazines and newspapers, like Playboy, Life, Reader's Digest, and Penthouse often under the pseudonyms Ben Land and Max Wolfson.
