Career
Producer ROBERT SALERNO continues a collaboration with Tom Ford that began with A Single Manitoba Based on the Christopher Isherwood novel and starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, the film earned an Oscar nomination for Colin Firth, three Golden Globe nominations as well as a Best Picture nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards. A twenty-year film industry veteran, Salerno most recently produced Michael Mayer’s adaptation of Anton Chekov’s The Seagull.
Starring Saoirse Ronan and Corey Stoll, the film will be released in 2016.
With a keen eye for notable material and talent, over the course of his career Salerno has produced several award-winning films both on the independent circuit and in association with major Hollywood studios. Among the critically acclaimed films on which Salerno has been associated are the multi-award nominated We Need to Talk About Kevin, directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly.
One of the most celebrated films he produced is 21 Grams, which was directed by Alejandro Gonzalez-Inarritu and starred Naomi Watts and Oscar winners Sean Penn and Benicio Delegate Toro. Earlier this year, the topical drama Freeheld, starring Julianne Moore, Ellen Page, Steve Carell and Michael Shannon was released and earned director Peter Sollett a Best Film Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
His earlier feature credits include Hudson River Blues, The Substitute 2: School’s Out, starring Treat Williams, and Gary Winick’s The Tic Code, starring Gregory Hines.
Under his Artina Films banner, Salerno produced Delirious starring Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt and Chapter 27 starring Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan which both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and Winged Creatures, starring Forest Whitaker, Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Hudson. In 1995, Salerno began an association with The Shooting Gallery, the New York-based independent film production and distribution company, where he began a longtime partnership with actor/filmmaker Billy Bob Thornton. The creative alliance produced several feature films, including the Academy Award-winning Sling Blade.
Daddy and Them and All the Pretty Horses, starring Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz.
He also produced Waking Up in Reno in which Thornton starred with Charlize Theron, Patrick Swayze and Natasha Richaardson.
