Mr. Selig was born on June 24, 1932, in New York, United States. He is a son of Seth (an orthopedic surgeon) and Leonore (a nurse; maiden name, Freedman) Selig.
In 1954 Robert Selig received Bachelor of Arts in English from University of North Carolina. He obtained Master of Arts in English from Columbia University in 1958. In 1965 Mr. Selig graduated from Columbia University with Doctor of Philosophy in English.
Mr. Selig served as an instructor in English at Queens College of the City University of New York, Flushing, NY, from 1961 to 1967. Between 1967 and 1972 he resumed his office as an assistant professor at Purdue University Northwest, Hammond, IN, associate professor, 1972-1981, professor of English, 1981.
