Quotations: "I write because I love the process of seeking the best words in the best order for what I want to say and of giving them permanent life on the printed page. My intellectual life has, in its turn, been shaped primarily by the printed words of others, but amid the widespread current academic belief in the supremacy of discourse over all other realms of reality, I tend to be a dissenter. The primary experience of all of us remains that of an individual consciousness seeking to make sense of the world around us — a world of other human beings and of a physical reality that cannot be talked away by any kind of discourse."
