Began as clerk in country store, becoming successively bookkeeper, hotel manager, railway accountant. Assisted in construction of Panama Canal, 1906-1908. With Interstate Commerce Commission, 1914-1945, serving successively as accountant, district accountant, chief report writer and head auditor of property changes, director of valuation and chairman tentative valuation committee, bureau of valuation, 1943-1945.
