Background

Elwood, Robert Arthur was born on November 27, 1873 in Newburgh, New York, United States. Son of James and Mary Eggleson (Hoy) Elwood.

Education

Student Cedarville (O.) College, 1894-1895. Reformed Presbyterian Seminary, Philadelphia, 1895-1896. Princeton Theological Seminary, 1896-1897 (non-graduate).

Career

Began as office boy with F. Middleton & Company, Philadelphia, later with John Wanamaker. Entered evangelistic work, 1897. Ordained Presbyterian ministry, 1899.

Pastor Absecon, New Jersey, until 1901, Olivet Church, Wilmington, Delaware, 1901-1905, 1st Church, Leavenworth, Kansas, 1905-1908. Founder. 1909, and pastor Boardwalk Church, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Only church of kind in the world: “no members, no officers, no choir and no collection plates”.

Retired 1940.
