Since the Nation at Risk report was released in 1983, public school education has been criticized by a variety of groups, academicians, the business community and various reactionary interest groups. In this book, the author proposes to demonstrate how the public's confidence in American schools can be improved. The book is divided into two sections. Section One examines the historical, sociological and economic antecedents to the current "crisis." Section Two examines strategies which can restore confidence in American public schools. In "Crisis," the author explains clearly the antecedents of the crisis and proposes concrete solutions, documented by research and/or experience. Furthermore, the book presents an optimistic perspective which will appeal to an audience eager for solutions. The programs and strategies contained in this book will provide positive direction and improve the educational quality of any school or school system seriously commit ted to improving public confidence in our schools.
