Appointed to Town Trustee, 1912, Portales. Elected, House of Representative, N.M., 1914. Elected to State Senate, N.M., 1916, 1924, 1928.
Elected Mayor, Portales, 1926. Re-elected 1928. As Senator saved the school fund around $800,000—had to obtain injunction against State Loan Board— sustained in all Courts up to Supreme Court. Reduced interest rate in State after 6 years struggle with Banking interest of the State.
Responsible for first public money act that protected permanent funds of State. Established Eastern N.M. Normal School at Portales. Was successful in passing a law requiring banks to pay interest on public funds.
In 1927 session amended Finance Bill to require Irrigation bonds to pay interest for 5 preceding years before being used as security for deposit of public funds in banks.
