Civil War Era Musical Instruments and Military Bands is a book that focuses on a much-ignored area of civil war collecting. This book portrays both in pictures and in narrative the colorful history of Civil War era military bands and musical instruments. Most of the approximately 200 photographs that appear in the book have never before been published. Nearly half of the photos are of musical instruments made in America between 1840-1870. More than 40 early instrument makers are represented.
