Explorations in North. Queensland before settlement took place and had some narrow escapes, having been speared by the natives.
Took prominent part in mining development of Colony and in inception of artesian water supply. President Geological 1045 Section Australasian Association, for Advancement of Science at first meeting in Sydney.
President Royal Society, Queensland, 1896. Represented Queensland at Greater Britain Exhibition, London, 1899.
Resigned 1899 and led an exjjedition in of Korea and China in the interests of an English Company.
The Boxer movement led to the withdrawal of the party from China into Burma across the Yangtse, Sal wen, Mekong, and Irrawadi and the mountainous regions inhabited by Lolo and Tibetan tribes. Member of Council Geological. Society London, 1902-1903.
Returned to London, 1901.
Practised his profession there till 1903, and subsequently in Western Australia and New South Wales. Has held several Royal Commissions in Western Australia. Memorandum Institute Mining and Metallurgy.
