Howison, Robert Reid was born on June 22, 1820 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States. Son of Samuel and Helen Howison.

Education

Studied law.

Career

Admitted to bar June, 1841. Practiced in Richmond 1 year, then took full course Union Theological Seminary, Virginia, 1842-1844. Pastor Staunton, Virginia, Presbyterian Church 1 year.

On account of health returned to law practice in Richmond. Practiced law, Richmond, Virginia, 1846-1870. Injured in Capitol disaster, Richmond, April 1870.

After recovery reëntered ministry. Pastor or minister to Samuel Davis Church, 3d Church, Richmond City, Milden, Orange, Culpeper and Ashland. While in Richmond served as member city council.

President Board of Lancastrian Schools. Commissioner of elections. Secretary Joint Committee on Treatment of Prisoners of War.
