Haines, Robert Terrel was born on February 3, 1870 in Muncie, Indiana, United States. Son of Adelbert S. and Emma J. Haines.


Educational public schools, Kansas City, Missoury. Bachelor of Laws, University of Missouri.


Began career as actor, 1891. Served as leading man with Viola Allen, Mistress Fiske, Blanche Bates, Henry Miller, James O’Neil, and other stars and combinations. Played Prince Kara in the Darling of the Gods,” 1902-1904, 1905-1906.

Starred in the comedy, Once Upon a Time,” season 1904-1905. Leading man with Grace George, in Clothes,” 1907-1908, in The Rose of the Rancho,” 1908. With Olga Nethersole, in The Writing on the Wall,” 1908-1909.

Leading man with Mme. Nazimova, in The Commanding Officer,” season 1909-1910. Featured in The Spendthrift,” season 1910-1911.

Manager Haines’ Stock Company, West End Theatre, New York, seasons 1911-1912, 1912-1913. Starred in vaudeville in The Coward,” 1913-1914. In The Man in the Dark,” in The Hyphen,” 1914-1915.

Also starred in vaudeville, seasons 1917-1919, and in moving picture plays. Played the doctor, in The Lost Leader,” 1919-1920, Sophus Meyers, in Samson and Delilah,” 1920-1921. Played the sheriff, in The Vagabond,” Paulson, in The Garden of Weeds,” the doctor, in White Cargo,” 1924-1925, Peter Rankin, in The Donovan Affair,” 1926-1927, in revival of Pomander Walk,” 1928, Senator Krull in This is New York,” 1930-1931, Doctor Koppel, in Allure,” 1934-1935, Father Macklin, in Halloween,” 1935-1936.

Featured on many coast to coast radio broadcasts since 1931. Starred in moving pictures, Does It Pay?” and The Governor’s Lady,” The Victim,” The Heart of New York,” The Secret Agent.”.
