Archbald, Robert Wodrow was born on September 10, 1848 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of James and Augusta (Frothingham) Archbald.

Education

Bachelor of Arts, Yale, 1871. Studied law at Scranton in office of Hand & Post. (Doctor of Laws, Dickinson College, 1908).

Career

Admitted to bar, September 1873, and practiced at Scranton. Additional law judge, 1885-1888, president judge, 1888-1901, 45th Judicial District of Pennsylvania. United States district judge of newly created Middle District of Pennsylvania, 1901-1910.

Appointed additional United States circuit judge by President Taft, December 1910, and assigned to the United States Commerce Court for 4 years from February 1, 1911. Declined appointment as United States circuit judge, 3d Circuit, 1909.
