Robyn O'Neil was born in 1977 in Omaha, Nebraska, United States.
Robyn O'Neil studied British Art and Architecture at King's College London and graduated in 1997. Three years later, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Then, O'Neil pursued her graduate studies and spent a year at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 2010, she also attended Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School in Los Angeles, California.
Robyn O'Neil’s started her career at the turn of the 20th century. Searching for her style, she experimented with bold, abstract paintings in trend colors in Dallas, Texas. Soon, in 2000, the artist realized that graphite, pencil and primary grey colors were more comfortable for her to express her artistic views. Besides, the medium she chose allows her to create anywhere and anytime she wants.
Since then, O'Neil has exhibited her 10 x 12 inch drawings around the United States, including the solo shows at Clementine Gallery, New York (2003) and at Angstrom Gallery, Dallas (2001), Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem, the Des Moines Art Center, and the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, which was shown at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca and Frye Art Museum, Seattle. In 2004, she took part at the annual Whitney Biennial held at the Whitney Museum of American Art. O'Neil’s works have been also demonstrated in many group shows both at home and abroad.
In addition to drawing, Robyn O'Neil tried her hand as a screenwriter and director of a film “WE, THE MASSES” created due to a grant from the Irish Film Board. In 2017, Archon Projects published the first monograph of O'Neil’s work titled ‘Robyn O’Neil: 20 Years of Drawing’.
The recent solo shows of the artist include the exhibitions at Talley Dunn Gallery, Illinois (2016), The Sheldon Museum of Art, Nebraska (2018), and at Susan Inglett Gallery (2018 and 2019).
Nowadays, Robyn O'Neil lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Among the representatives of her art are Susan Inglett Gallery, Talley Dunn Gallery, and Western Exhibitions.
