Johnson made his SCL debut on November 9, 2012, facing Brad Foust at SCL: Gladiators.

In his second fight in the promotion, Johnson challenged Dequan Townsend for the SCL Welterweight Championship at SCL: Havoc at the Hellespont on September 27, 2013.

Foreign his first title defense, Johnson faced Matt Cox at SCL: Monarchs of Sparta on December 14, 2013. He lost the fight via split decision.

Before turning professional, Johnson debuted as an amateur for the Battlequest promotion, getting a keylock submission win over AJ Affitica at Battlequest 1 on August 23, 2003. He won the fight via rear-naked choke submission. He won the fight via first round KO. He won the fight via unanimous decison.
