Rodolfo Namias was born on March 17, 1867, in Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Rodolfo Namias majored in chemistry at the Polytechnical School in Turin.
Rodolfo Namias worked in the industry for a while after graduation, then became a professor of pure and applied chemistry in a Technical Institute. He later took charge of chemistry, photography, and photomechanical reproduction at the School of Graphic Arts in Milan, where he stayed until 1905. In 1894 Rodolfo Namias established a laboratory for chemical research in Milan and founded the monthly periodical Progresso Fotográfico, which his son continued to publish after Rodolfo's death. Namias' laboratory expanded into an educational establishment covering photochemistry, applied photography, photomicroscopy, and other technical areas of photography.
Rodolfo Namias wrote many books on photography and photomechanical reproduction, including a manual on theoretical and practical photochemistry that was translated into French and German.
