Davidson attended Newington College (1932–1940) and then the University of Sydney from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1945. Davidson was in general practice in Enmore, New South Wales and was the medical officer for the neighbouring Newington College. In the thirty-year period in which he held this role he initiated Australia"s most comprehensive sports injury surveillance study at schoolboy level
