His other film credits include Henry V (1945), Odd Manitoba Out (1947), Ivanhoe (1952) and The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone (1961). In 1946 he created the sets for the ballet Adam Zero at Covent Garden. Ralph Furse"s sister was actress Judith Furse.
A frequent collaborator with Laurence Olivier, Furse won two Oscars in 1948 for his art direction and costume design of Olivier"s version of Hamlet for the black and white categories. He was also nominated for a Tony Award in 1961 for his set design of the Broadway hit drama, Duel of Angels. Furse"s portrait of his wife, Margaret, an Academy Award-winning costume designer, is included in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.
