Roger A. Lewin was born on January 22, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. He is the son of David Victor Lewin, a soil engineer, and Doris (Shapiro) Lewin, a teacher.
Roger A. Lewin received his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1967. He also received a Doctor of Medicine from Wright State University in 1981.
Roger Lewin was a resident at Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital in Towson, Maryland from 1981 to 1985, and then became a psychiatrist during 1985-1991. In 1991 he became a teacher and supervisor there.
Besides, in 1981 Lewin launched a private practice of psychiatry in Towson.
In addition, he was a volunteer teacher in Tanzania at a training college for political leaders and at Kivukoni College in Dar es Salaam in 1967-1969. He was also a housing developer at Building Systems, Inc. and conducted fieldwork in Bahia, Brazil.
Roger Lewin was also as a teacher, and later became the director of a Quaker school in Cleveland, Ohio.
As a psychiatry specialist, Roger Lewin has been practicing for more than thirty years. He is primarily famous for the books "Losing and Fusing" (with Clarence Schütz) and "Creative Collaboration in Psychotherapy". Besides, he received Wendell Muncie Award from Maryland Association of Private Practicing Psychiatrists and Maryland Psychiatric Society, for the paper "Difficulties in Communicating with a Borderline Patient".
