He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break medium-pace bowler who played for Himachal Pradesh. He was born in Kangra. Awasthy, who, six seasons previously, appeared for Himachal Pradesh"s Under-19 team, made a single first-class appearance for the side, during the 1995-1996 season, against Haryana.
From the middle order, he scored 12 runs in the only innings in which he batted.
