Rokuemon Konishi

Background

Rokuemon Konishi was born in 1847.

Career

While working at an apothecary snop at Nihonbashi, Tokyo, Rokuemon Konishi realized the great future of the photography business and in the early part of the Meiji Era opened a shop for the import of photographic equipment and lithographic material.

Later Rokuemon Konishi founded and published "Thoto Monthly" (1894).

Achievements

• Under the guidance of a French technical expert founded the Konishi School of Photography, for training people in all arts of photography.
