Career
In 1994 he killed the Dutch air hostess Christel Ambrosius. After fleeing the scene, two other suspects were arrested by the police. Although innocent, they were served a prison sentence of 10 years.
After their release a new suspect, Ronald Pieper, was arrested in 2008, based on deoxyribonucleic acid testing.
He was sentenced to an 18-year sentence. During his imprisonment he confessed another murder to a fellow convict.
This judicial error aroused a discussion as how the police have done their research. Major changes were implemented as a result.
