Ronald W. Pruessen was born on July 10, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States. He is a son of Ernest Pruessen and Lena (DeFries-Dion) Pruessen.
In 1965, Ronald received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College, City University of New York. Later, he continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 1966. In 1968, Pruessen received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the same university.
In 1968, Ronald began his career as an assistant professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, a post he held till 1975. Between 1975-1983, Pruessen served as an associate professor at the University of Toronto in Toronto. In 1983, he was promoted to the post of a professor at the same university.
In his later years, Ronald served as the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy’s Director for International Partnerships & Research and as the Chair of the Department of History of the University of Toronto.
Pruessen had also worked on a study of the way Barack Obama’s foreign policies relate to deeply rooted American views and behavior.
