Career
He is best known for his writings on cultural theory, cosmopolitanism, institutionalized images of humanity, and Guam. His fieldwork in Guam resulted in a book-length ethnography called Pacific Passages (1998) in which he inverts the conventional anthropological perspective. Instead of interpreting the local situation in cultural terms and global processes in terms of political forces, he focuses on how local politics and world culture interact in Guam.
Ronald Stade is professor of peace and conflict studies, especially anthropology at Malmö University College.
He has been affiliated to Stockholm University, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences, and Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo.
