Assistant professor, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, 1976-1977; assistant to associate professor ancient history and archaeology, University of Minnesota, Duluth, 1977-1987; professor, University of Minnesota, Duluth, since 1987. Research associate department classics New York University, 1972-1974. Evaluator grant proposals National Endowment for Humanities, HSF.

Excavator numerous sites in Israel and Turkey. Lecturer in field.
