Ronda Rousey is an American professional wrestler, actress, and former professional mixed martial artist and judoka. She was named the number one pound-for-pound female MMA fighter in the world. Currently, Rousey is a wrestler with World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE).
Background
Ethnicity:
Rousey is of English, Polish, Trinidadian and Venezuelan ancestry.
Ronda Rousey was born on February 1, 1987, in Riverside, California, United States. She is the youngest of three daughters of AnnMaria De Mars (née Waddell) and Ron Rousey. Her mother is a decorated judoka. Her father committed suicide in 1995 when Rousey was eight.
Education
When Rousey was three years old, her mother and father moved from Riverside to Jamestown. She struggled in school and had problems focusing on her studies. Her mother persuaded her to learn judo. She believed that it would act as a vent for her frustration. Her mother became her first coach and made Ronda train really hard.
Ronda was named to the United States Olympic team at the age of 15. So, she dropped out of high school at 16 and later earned a GED. At the age of 17, she qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, becoming the youngest judoka in the entire Olympic Games.
Ronda Rousey began judo with her mother at the age of 11. She trained with her mother until she was 13. Rousey was named to the United States Olympic team at the age of 15. The next year, she became the youngest American to earn the national No. 1 ranking in the women's half-middleweight division. She didn't earn a medal at the 2004 Olympics, but she claimed gold at that year's World Junior and Pan American Judo Championships.
In 2006, after Ronda defended her Pan American Judo Championship title, she became the first American woman in 12 years to earn a World Championship medal. She finished second in the 2007 tournament. Later, Rousey won gold at the 2007 Pan American Games, despite a torn knee meniscus. After earning the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, she retired from judo at the age of 21.
Rhonda didn't know what to do after completing her judoka career. For some time, she worked as a bartender. She eventually joined the Glendale Fighting Club and in August 2010 made her amateur debut in mixed martial arts, a victory by way of an armbar after just 23 seconds. Two more amateur bouts ended via armbar submission after 57 and 24 seconds.
Rousey turned pro in the sport, reeling off four straight wins in under a minute apiece. In March 2012, she became the Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion by defeating Miesha Tate in four minutes and 27 seconds.
On August 18, 2012, Rousey defended her Strikeforce title against Sarah Kaufman at Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman. She submitted Kaufman with an armbar in 54 seconds to retain the Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Championship.
In November 2012, it was announced that Rousey had become the first female fighter to sign with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Ronda defended her title against Liz Carmouche on February 23, 2013. She won the fight at 4:49 into the first round by submission due to an armbar. At the end of 2013, she won a rematch with Tate that extended to the third round, suggesting she was losing her touch as the dominant force of the UFC women's circuit.
It was announced at the UFC 168 post-fight press conference that Rousey would defend the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship against Sara McMann in the main event at UFC 170 on February 22, 2014. She won the fight by TKO after knocking down McMann over a minute into the first round.
On April 11, 2014, it was announced that Rousey would defend the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship against Alexis Davis on July 5, 2014. She won the fight via knockout 16 seconds into the first round.
However, her reign ended with a second-round knockout by Holly Holm in November 2015. This loss sent ripples through the sporting world and presented Rousey with her first serious athletic challenge. Over a year after her 2015 loss, Rousey attempted a comeback on December 30, 2016 at UFC 207, facing off against reigning champion Amanda Nunes. However, she was defeated in just 48 seconds.
On January 28 2018, Rousey confirmed she was joining World Wrestling Entertainment with her surprise appearance at the WWE women's Royal Rumble match. She didn't rule out a return to mixed martial arts, the move all but signaled the end of her historic run as the sport's first female superstar.
Her WWE debut, at Wrestlemania 34 on April 8, was a successful one. Teaming with Kurt Angle, the duo dispatched the husband-wife team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in the Mixed Match Challenge, which ended with McMahon tapping out from a Rousey armbar. The following day, during Monday Night Raw, the newcomer further endeared herself to fans when McMahon attempted to kiss up to Rousey, only to get thrown to the mat for another armbar.
In August 2018, Rousey won the Raw Women's Championship by defeating Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam. She held the title until losing to Becky Lynch in April 2019.
Later, Rousey confirmed that she was stepping away from the ring indefinitely to focus on starting a family.
Ronda Rousey filmed The Expendables 3 (2014), in which she played a nightclub bouncer who is recruited to join a team of mercenaries. She also appeared in the 2015 films Furious 7 and Entourage. In August 2018, she starred in the international crime thriller Mile 22, a story about a special CIA force tasked to protect a valuable intelligence asset from a group of terrorists. She also penned her autobiography My Fight / Your Fight in 2015.
In August 2019, it was announced that Rousey would be joining the third season of FOX's 9-1-1 series, as a recurring character Lena Bosko.
Ronda Rousey is the first 'UFC' Women's Bantamweight Champion and the first Olympic medalist to hold a UFC title. She also gained prominence as a professional wrestler and judoka. In 2002, she became the United States Open Junior Gold Medalist. In 2005, she attained the title of the United States Open Senior Gold Medalist.
Ronda Rousey also won a gold medal at the World Junior Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2004. In April 2006, she became the first female United States judoka in almost 10 years to win an A-Level tournament when she claimed gold at the Birmingham World Cup in Great Britain.
Ronda also became the first female fighter to be formally introduced into the UFC Hall of Fame. From 2012 to 2014, she was awarded Female Fighter of the Year in the World MMA Awards. In 2014 and 2015, Rousey won an ESPY Award.
Fox Sports dubbed Ronda Rousey as "one of the defining athletes of the 21st century."

Religion
Rousey has never been vocal about her own religious beliefs. However, she has shown hints of anti-religion in some places.
When Rousey was asked about fellow fighter Manny Pacquiao's recent remarks that gay people are "worse than animals," she responded: "I understand that a lot of people use religion as a reason to be against gay people, but there was no 'Thou Shall Not Be Gay,'" she said. "God never said that, and I really think that our pope now is boss. He was saying something the other day that religion should be all-encompassing and should be about loving everyone. And I think people take the wrong message sometimes."
Politics
Ronda Rousey endorsed Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign in the 2016 United States presidential election.
Views
In 2015, Ronda Rousey raised money by auctioning signed T-shirts for the Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation. Its goal is to save big cats from circuses and zoos and provide them with the best lifestyle.

Quotations:
"The knowledge that everything good can be taken away at any second is what makes me work so hard."
"Everyone wants to win. But to truly succeed - whether it is at a sport or at your job or in life - you have to be willing to do the hard work, overcome the challenges, and make the sacrifices it takes to be the best at what you do."
"Most people focus on the wrong thing: They focus on the result, not the process. The process is the sacrifice; it's all the hard parts - the sweat, the pain, the tears, the losses. You make the sacrifices anyway. You learn to enjoy them, or at least embrace them. In the end, it is the sacrifices that must fulfill you."
"To be the best, you have to constantly be challenging yourself, raising the bar, pushing the limits of what you can do. Don't stand still, leap forward."
"No one is ever going to give you anything of value. You have to work for it, sweat for it, fight for it. But there is far greater value in accomplishments you earn than in accolades that are merely given to you. When you earn something, you never have to worry about justifying that you truly deserve it."
"I want to be a perfect fighter, and that's one of those unattainable goals because you will never be perfect. But I can always be closer to perfect."
"I like to be part of the change I want to see in the world. Not being afraid of criticism is actually a big advantage. I feel like I tried to be agreeable and failed - it failed me. And so I just did not give a shit and ended up succeeding a lot more because of it."
"If you can't dream big, ridiculous dreams, what's the point in dreaming at all?"
"You have to fight because you can't count on anyone else fighting for you... To get anything of real value, you have to fight for it."
"The kind of hope I'm talking about is the belief that something good will come. That everything you're going through and everything you've gone through will be worth the struggles and frustrations. The kind of hope I'm talking about is a deep belief that the world can be changed, that the impossible is possible."
"It is not about just winning the round. It is not just about winning the fight. It is about winning every single second of your life."
"I feel like I started doing this because I wanted to find a way to pay my bills doing something that I loved, and it's gotten bigger than that. It's gotten bigger than me."
"I am not looking to escape the pressure. I am embracing it. Pressure is what builds up in the chamber behind a bullet before it explodes out of the gun."
"It is one thing to fight other people, but fighting yourself is different. If you're fighting yourself, who wins? Who loses?"
"No matter how much you try or what you say, people aren't going to fully understand you or where you're coming from. You just have to get used to being misunderstood."
"Everything in the world is information. The information you choose to acknowledge and the information you choose to ignore is up to you. You can let outside factors beyond your control throw off your focus. You can let aching muscles hold you back. You can let the silence make you feel uncomfortable. By choosing to focus only on the information that is necessary, you can tune out every distraction, and achieve far more."
"Once you start caring about people's opinions of you, you give up control."
"No drug or amount of money or favoritism can ever give you belief in yourself."
"How you feel is entirely in your mind. Your mind has nothing to do with your environment. It has nothing to do with anyone around you. It is entirely your decision. Making a change in your life is as easy as making a decision and acting on it. That's it."
"Some people like to call me cocky or arrogant, but I just think, 'How dare you assume I should think less of myself? The problem isn't me thinking I can achieve any goal I set for myself, the problem is you projecting your own self-doubt onto me.'"
"Somehow, self-deprecation is considered modesty, and my confidence was considered arrogance, and it's considered a bad thing to compliment yourself. We're always told to compliment everyone around you and talk yourself down. I don't know how we're expected to look at ourselves healthily if we're told to talk about ourselves negatively."
"There have always been people who have written me off. They're not going away. I use that to motivate me. I'm driven to show them just how wrong they are."
"The moment you stop viewing your opponent as a threat is the moment you leave yourself open to getting beat."
"Don't you ever let anyone tell you that not doing your absolute best is good enough."
